LeakTronics founder Darren Merlob started working in the pool service industry in 1989. What began with just a few customers on a service route quickly grew into American Pool Resurfacing, one of the most profitable and reputable professional pool renovation companies in Southern Florida.
While working with available market equipment, Darren identified common frustrations in repairing structural cracks, including epoxy injection and re-bar, and developed a groundbreaking technique. This became the globally recognized standard, the patented Torque Lock Compression Staple and Stitching Method.

The Torque-Lock Staple was Darren’s first of many proven innovations and is trusted and distributed worldwide as the top method for repairing and stabilizing cracks in pools, foundations, seawalls, statues, retaining walls, and hundreds of other concrete structures.
As new opportunities arose, Darren contacted new businesses and relocated his home office to Texas, founding Austech Pools. With his advanced technologies and inspection and repair techniques, Darren’s business expanded tenfold, specializing in leak detection, pool, and concrete repairs. The Torque Lock Staple and Darren’s installation work were hired to repair some of Texas’ most treasured monuments, including the LBJ Memorial Fountain.
Austech Pools rapidly established itself as the most trusted leak detection and pool repair service provider in central Texas.
Darren was asked to sell the entire company to another entrepreneur. Driven by his desire to keep inventing devices that have ultimately transformed the leak detection industry, Darren moved again. This time, he relocated to Los Angeles, California, where LeakTronics was founded, introducing new equipment, training, and methods for delivering accurate and precise leak detection. Since founding the company, Darren has expanded a line of Leak Detection equipment that surpasses the outdated tools that have troubled the industry for years. Utilizing modern technologies like “Phantom Power,” along with unidirectional and omnidirectional hydrophones, LeakTronics' equipment has advanced far beyond that of other manufacturers.
LeakTronics equipment and award-winning online training have become essential in the leak detection industry for technicians, plumbers, and individuals looking to start or advance their careers in professional leak detection.
