Why Hands-On Leak Detection Training Makes All the Difference
Good call! Here's the blog with internal links to other LeakTronics pages:
There's a big gap between understanding leak detection in theory and confidently performing it on an actual job site. You can watch videos, read manuals, and study diagrams all day long but nothing compares to getting in the water with professional equipment and finding real leaks in a real pool.
That's exactly why we created our on-site leak detection training program at LeakTronics headquarters in Agoura Hills, California.
Learn in a Purpose-Built Training Environment
Our facility features a custom-built pool with actual leaks engineered into it. This isn't a simulation or a demonstration it's a fully functional training environment where every exercise mirrors what you'll encounter on a real service call.
From the moment you hook up your equipment to the final diagnosis, you'll work through the complete leak detection process with guidance from experienced instructors. By the end of the day, you'll have the confidence and hands-on experience to tackle any leak a customer's pool can throw at you.
What You'll Master During Training
This intensive one-day program covers the entire leak detection workflow from start to finish. You'll gain practical experience with LeakTronics' most advanced pool leak detection equipment, including hydrophone technology for acoustic leak detection, the 1.5" HHVP camera system, and the CamVac and CamScan systems from our camera technology lineup for visually confirming leaks inside plumbing lines.
The training walks you through each critical phase of a professional leak detection job. You'll start with client consultation techniques, learning how to communicate effectively with homeowners and set proper expectations. From there, you'll move into visual inspection methods that help identify common leak indicators and problem areas before you even get your equipment wet.
Once in the pool, you'll use drop microphones and hydrophones to listen for leaks acoustically. Not sure what a leak sounds like? Our leak sounds library gives you a preview, but hearing them live in the training pool is a completely different experience. You'll practice dye testing techniques with visual mirrors and static cones while diving to pinpoint exact leak locations. Pressure testing rounds out your diagnostic toolkit—using professional plugs and pressure testing equipment, you'll learn how to confirm findings, isolate problem areas, and systematically rule out false positives.
The training also covers Hydrodome operation and best practices for advanced leak detection scenarios. Throughout the day, you'll document everything using the LeakTronics App, learning the professional reporting standards that separate amateur leak finders from trusted experts.
Who Should Attend
This on-site training is designed for serious leak detection professionals who want more than textbook knowledge. If you've completed online training and want real-world reps with direct instructor feedback, this program gives you exactly that.
Pool service professionals looking to add leak detection to their offerings will benefit enormously from the hands-on experience. Existing leak detection technicians can sharpen their skills, improve their accuracy, and pick up new techniques. Business owners who want their entire team operating at the highest level can bring up to five attendees per session.
The training focuses on building a proven job flow you can take home and implement immediately. Every technique, every equipment setup, and every diagnostic approach is designed for real-world application—not theory.
Requirements Before You Arrive
All participants must complete LeakTronics online training before attending the hands-on session. We offer several options depending on your focus area, including our Swimming Pool Leak Detection Training and Certification Course and our Pool Inspection with Leak Detection Course. This ensures everyone arrives with foundational knowledge and can hit the ground running with advanced techniques and equipment practice.
You'll need to arrange your own travel and lodging in the Agoura Hills area. Bring your smartphone, tablet, or laptop for taking notes and accessing training materials throughout the day.
Training times are approximate and may be adjusted based on group progress. We focus on making sure every participant masters the material rather than rushing through a rigid schedule.
Training Investment
The on-site training program is $2,500 for the primary attendee. Additional team members can join for $1,000 each, with a maximum of five total participants per session.
Your investment includes a guided facility tour and equipment orientation, hands-on practice at live pool stations with full job walk-throughs, instruction on professional reporting workflows using the LeakTronics App, and a closing Q&A session. You'll leave with a certificate of completion and more importantly the skills and confidence to perform thorough, professional leak detection work.
The Bottom Line
Leak detection is a skill that improves dramatically with practice. The more pools you work on, the more leaks you find, the better you get at recognizing patterns and efficiently diagnosing problems. Our on-site training compresses that learning curve by putting you in situations that replicate real service calls, with expert guidance to correct mistakes and reinforce best practices.
If you're ready to take your leak detection abilities to the next level, reserve your seat and join us in Agoura Hills. One day of intensive, hands-on training can transform how you approach every leak detection job going forward.
