LeakTronics G-S 1000 hydrogen gas leak detector
G-S 1000 $3,330$3,700
Pinpoint Accuracy

Follow rising ppm readings straight to the leak. Dig once, not five times.

Pro-Grade Sensor

Reads hydrogen tracer gas from 0 to 4,000 ppm, even through concrete and soil.

No Training Needed

Two buttons and a color-coded LED bar. If you can run a hose, you can run the G-S 1000.

How it works

Follow the gas
to the leak.

  1. Charge the line

Hook the tracer gas to the line and pressurize it, usually 20-25 psi. The mix is 95% nitrogen, 5% hydrogen: non-toxic and non-flammable.

  2. Gas finds the leak

The gas escapes through the crack. It is the only way out of the line, so every bit of it exits right at the leak.

  3. Tracer gas rises

Hydrogen is lighter than air and smaller than the pores in soil and concrete. It climbs straight up to the surface.

  4. The G-S 1000 nails it

Walk the line and watch the bar. The highest reading marks the leak. Dig there, and only there.

Follow the bar.
Find the leak.

The G-S 1000 reads tracer gas in parts per million. The closer you get to the leak, the higher the bar climbs. Drag the handle and walk the line.

The LED bar walks you to the leak.

The G-S 1000 reads hydrogen concentration from 0 to 4,000 ppm on a bright LED bar. As you move closer to the leak, the readings climb and the colors shift. The hottest spot is your dig spot.

Approved tracer gas: 95% nitrogen, 5% hydrogen

Runs on gas you can buy down the street.

The G-S 1000 is calibrated for a 95% nitrogen / 5% hydrogen tracer gas mix (UN1956): non-toxic, non-flammable, and safe for water lines. No license required.

  • Available at local welding and gas supply stores
  • Passes through soil, concrete, tile, and walls
  • No need to drain the line. Pressurize and scan

Slab leaks

Hydrogen rises cleanly through concrete. Pinpoint the leak before you ever touch a jackhammer.

Behind walls

Confirm which wall, then narrow it to the exact spot. Cut one small access hole, not a whole bathroom.

Yard and service lines

Walk the run, follow the readings, and find leaks even feet underground without trenching the whole line.

Pools and spas

Find leaks in pool and spa plumbing without draining the pool or tearing up the deck on a hunch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What gas does the G-S 1000 detect?

The G-S 1000 is designed and calibrated to detect one thing: a 95% nitrogen / 5% hydrogen tracer gas mixture (UN1956, often called forming gas). Before every job, verify the cylinder label reads 95% nitrogen / 5% hydrogen. Using any other mixture can cause incorrect readings.

Is tracer gas safe to use?

Yes. The 95/5 nitrogen-hydrogen blend is non-toxic, non-flammable, and environmentally safe, and you don't need a license to buy it. You can pick it up at most local welding or gas supply stores, and you don't need to drain the water line to use it.

Do I need training or certification?

No. Press power, wait for the battery check, and scan. The LED bar climbs and changes color as you get closer to the leak. The highest reading is your spot. If you ever have a question in the field, just call our team.

How does battery and charging work?

The G-S 1000 runs about 2 hours per charge and recharges in about 2 hours on the included 5V DC charger (5V only). It automatically powers off after 30 minutes of no use to save battery, and stops charging automatically when full. We recommend not leaving it charging overnight.

How do I take care of the sensor?

Keep the gas sensor clean and dry: no water, dust, or debris in or around the inlet, during use or storage. The boot cap removes for cleaning, and a mesh filter protects the inside. If you suspect dirt deeper in the unit, send it to our technicians. Don't open the unit yourself; doing so forfeits the guarantee.

How do I get one?
